About Chickasaw Housing Authority

Chickasaw Housing Authority is dedicated to providing safe, decent, and drug-free housing for low-income families, the elderly, and individuals with disabilities in Chickasaw, Alabama, and Mobile County. Established in 1961, we focus on promoting self-sufficiency and economic independence among our residents. Our mission emphasizes effective management, community partnerships, and responsive service delivery to enhance the quality of life for our tenants. We strive to be a reliable resource for affordable housing while continuously adapting to the changing needs of our community.

The Chickasaw Housing Authority (CHA) plays a vital role in fostering affordable housing solutions for eligible low-income families, disabled individuals, and senior citizens in Chickasaw, Alabama, as well as surrounding areas within Mobile County. Originating as military housing during World War II, the property transitioned into a residential complex known as Gulf Homes before being taken over by CHA in 1961. The formation of the Housing Authority responded to local concerns regarding crime associated with the prior management of the property. Since its establishment, CHA has been committed to improving living conditions by developing new housing options. By 1967, CHA successfully built 288 units of modern affordable housing that continue to serve community members today. Our mission extends beyond merely providing shelter; we are dedicated to empowering our residents through opportunities that promote self-sufficiency and economic independence.
